Southern State Correctional Facility Profile & Visiting Info
Address and Phone Number
4295 Route 47
Delmont, New Jersey 08314
PO Box 150
When SSCF came into operation in 1983, it marked a new concept for the state in two areas. Its entire construction consists of prefabricated units, and all inmates are housed in dormitory style instead of in individual cells. The Bureau of State Use Industries/DEPTCOR operates sheds and concrete products shops at the facility.
Your loved one must FIRST submit a form to get you on the approved visting list. No one may visit a NJ Prison without being approved FIRST. This is very important. It doesn't matter if you traveled halfway across the world, if you are not on the list...you are NOT visiting.
Registration times for this facility are:

Please be aware of the dress code. NO KHAKI. NO BRIGHT ORANGE. I believe you are also not allowed to wear white tees. Nothing revealing. No low cut shirts, no short dresses/skirts. All sandals must be secured to the foot. NO FLIP FLOPS. Nothing in between the toes.
You must clear the metal detector.
I would suggest getting there VERY early. You want to beat the afternoon bus that gets there around noon.
Even for the morning visit. You want to get there early. The first person in the parking lot usually makes a list of who enters next along with their license plate number. This is there way of tracking who is first in line, who is second, so forth and so on. Once it is time to line up. Someone will most likely take the initiative to tell you when you got there. Be careful, some people may argue...some people may not like it. But this is what they did when I used to visit.
You line up outside, and then a CO will come and hand out forms. THIS IS WHY ITS IMPORTANT TO GET THERE EARLY. There is a number at the bottom of your form. This is your registration number. Once you get your form. You are free to go back to your car. Once it is time to line up again, the CO will let you know when you can proceed to the next door. Once you all walk over there. You line up according to your number. If you make it late...and you do not have a pass. You line up single file behind the next person in line. You wait outside for a bit and then a CO will come out and ask who doesnt have a pass. He/She will hand out passes.
Once you are admitted into the building (they usually take the first ten) registration goes pretty quick. You submit your form and ID to the CO. Get your stamp. Secure your things, and head to the metal detector line.
Visits are okay. They used to have snack machines but they took them out. Now you may only purchase bottled water from the machine.
You must sit two tiles away from your loved on. Kissing is permitted at the beginning and end of each visit.
There are no option to purchase pictures at this facility.
