      G.K. Fountain Correctional Facility originated in 1928 as the Moffett Prison Farm, later renamed Atmore Prison Farm until it burned in 1949. The facility was eventually rebuilt in 1955 and has a capacity for 855 medium custody inmates. The facility was named in honor of an officer killed in the line of duty. Located on 8,200 acres about seven miles north of Atmore on State Highway 21, Fountain maintains cattle, agricultural operations, and vegetable gardens. Additionally, the facility offers vocational programs through the nearby Jefferson Davis Community College. Fountain has an annual budget of approximately $8,132,000.

      Visitation Information

      Visiting Hours

      Sundays from 8:00 am - 11:00 am and 11:45 am - 2:45 pm (alternates from week-to-week, based on inmates last name). For example, a prisoner will have morning visitation one week, afternoon visitation the next week, and morning the following week, etc

      NON approved visitor apparel:

      • No Shorts
      • No Sweat Pants
      • No Strapless Tops
      • No Spaghetti Strape Tops
      • No Tank Tops
      • No Solid White or Light Colors
      • No Short Skirts
      • No Dresses wtih high splits
      • If you are wearing a slip, it must be worn under a dress or skirt
      • You must wear underwear - AND THEY HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO CHECK
      • No Caps or hats
      • No Sunglasses - All eyeware must be prescription


      You must have a photo ID - driver’s license, work ID, passport, etc.
      The rules for wearing jewelery vary at different facilities - moderate at some, wedding rings only at others.

      $20-30 IN CHANGE ONLY can be taken in for vending machines. Your loved one can find out for sure what is allowed, but just to be safe take $20.

      The ONLY items you are allowed to bring in with you will be your ID, your change for the vending machines and your car keys.

      Smoking is permitted outside for most Alabama facilities and you may purchase and tabacco products can be purchased at the facility vending machine.
