Located in Clark County, just North of Las Vegas, Indian Springs Conservation Camp was opened in 1983 with Five 20 bed housing units. A new 210 bed housing unit was opened in 1994, the Camp was moved into it and the old buildings demolished, bringing the population capacity from 100 in 1983 to the present day population capacity of 210, the name was officially changed to Three Lakes Valley Conservation Camp, referencing the USGS designation for the location of the Camp, in 2008. The Three Lakes Valley Conservation Camp supplies inmates to the Nevada Division of Forestry for work projects that include everything from roadside litter removal to landscape beautification to fighting wildfires. The Three Lakes Valley Conservation Camp facility compound also encompasses the Three Lakes Valley Boot Camp.
The Three Lakes Valley Boot Camp is a 180 day Program of Regimental Discipline designed to allow judges to give non violent first time offenders with lesser crimes an opportunity to better themselves and become productive citizens without having to be sent to prison, while providing a less costly alternative to the taxpayers than incarceration. Three Lakes Valley Boot camp opened in 1991 with a population of 63 as the Indian Springs Boot Camp and underwent the same change in name as Three Lakes Valley Conservation Camp in 2008 with a population of 80 offenders. During the 180 days offenders, referred to as “Trainees”, spend in the program they are required to attend a minimum of 120 hours of “Life Skills” programming which include Substance Abuse, Anger Management, Cultural Diversity, Family Dynamics and Employability classes to provide them with a better opportunity for success upon release. Trainees also are required to perform 150 hours community service, which includes working at Opportunity Village, Habitat for Humanity, US Air Force, National Wild Horse Association and numerous State agencies.
Both of these camps are satellites of the Southern Desert Correctional Center and their medical, maintenance and most other needs are provided by the main institution.
